From yoga spaces and craft rooms to garden offices or the potential for additional income from a holiday rental, there is a growing demand for summerhouses and studios in West Cornwall. A desire for more space and relaxed planning laws has fueled this boom.
Our team will guide you through the design and planning phase. Creating your studio or summerhouse from the ground up using modern building practices and materials to create a sanctuary in your garden.
With outside living becoming more significant in our efforts to reconnect to nature and having a retreat as a place for wellbeing our team are perfectly placed to create designs that achieve fluidity between indoor/outdoor spaces and buildings that are able to engage holistically with their landscaped environments.
The design brief was to create a secret hideaway, tucked away in the corner of a field in Nancledra. The timber frame hut was erected on concrete piers, keeping it elevated from the field floor, minimising disturbance to the surrounding area and protecting it from rot. The building was clad in waney edged Douglas Fir, with a cedar shingle roof so it would blend into the background. The windows were supplied by the client and up cycled on site.
The project involved building a garden room at the end of an existing property to be used as a secluded study. The room was built to modern building regulations, incorporating underfloor heating, large glass windows with a garden aspect, The studio was clad in locally sourced larch and has a green roof.
After being part of the construction team that built an additional storey on top of the lean-to roof on this quaint Cornish cottage, we were asked to return and landscape the garden creating two terraced decks, surrounded by glass, connected by granite steps.
